I always admired the beadwork of the women. These women are actually painted from memory to celebrate their mastery of bead making. I decided to paint Samburu brides, a wedding is a transition into adulthood and motherhood. Africa is changing, and many of the traditions are being re-invented to accommodate new belief systems, tourism and the "modern" world. There is always a mystery associated with change as change means moving into the unknown. Similarly, art is like that for me, each piece is a journey into the unknown.
